I mean, it can't just be me can it?
Because it seems that one sure fire way of clearing a room is to turn on your favourite Christmas album.
It's worked for me. Plenty of times.
For years the only Christmas music I played was Bing Crosby - and I am talking from my 20s up.
Oh yes, as soon as that Christmas Tree went up I forgot about my favourite rock music and on came Bing.
Ah.... Bing....
Oh Holy Night indeed.
Of course, I was teased unmercifully. And still am.
I am not embarrassed to admit that I would play the album at least twice a day for at least 3 weeks and I never got sick of it. Ever.
Unfortunately, everyone else did not share the same view.
Many plans were hatched by 'the haters' to dispose of Bing in the most undignified of ways.
And I was offered bribes that would have even made Nigerian officials stand up and take notice.
Not me.
I was resolute.
It was Bing and me against the world.
In fact it has only been in the last couple of years that people have managed to convince me to try something new.
Just because it got a bit lonely with just me, Bing and the Christmas Tree.
So, in the spirit of Christmas, I bought something new.
Michael Buble.
Nice, easy listening and kind of like Bing but with a Canadian accent.
However, as I've since discovered, he is as equally polarising, if not more so.
Then, in my quest for Peace & Harmony, two vital ingredients for any holiday season, I went searching for other Christmas Albums.
Oh my, just look at the choice. Every artist has a holiday release.
Even Rod Stewart? I like Rod but no, not sure I can.....go rocking around the Christmas Tree...noooo.
Mmmmm, perhaps it is not the artist that people dislike, but the tunes that people get tired of.
Perhaps you either like Christmas music or you don't. As for me I am looking for something new.
What about you? Are you a Christmas music 'liker' or 'hater'?

I love Christmas music for the first week of December, and then again in about July.
ReplyDeleteDo you do Christmas in July?
Deleteno, but by then I've gotten over being sick of hearing them so much in December:)
DeleteI like christmas songs but few and far between. Coldplay did some good ones. True. Interesting to know what these are like although I heard Margot Rey when you posted her before. I like her. I cannot believe you listened to Bing for like a gazillion years.
ReplyDeleteYes I did and do but it has been a while since I listened to him. He just has one of those voices that melt into the background. Easy listening, honest lol.
DeleteI adore Christmas music. Not the rock kind, but more traditional. My all-time favorite is the Kingston Trio's "Last Month of the Year." Wonderful stuff.
ReplyDeleteKingston Trio, yes. You may well like Shauna Burns too. Celtic, quite lovely.
DeleteThe mall I work at has had piped-in Christmas music for more than a week. Some of it is good, some is worth forgetting.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm surrounded by seasonal music during the day I don't seek it out as much as in years past, but it wouldn't be Christmas without a classic from my childhood--Holiday Sing-Along with Mitch Miller.
I have never heard of Mitch Kathy but I will have to go and check him out. Yes I can imagine working in a mall with music non stop, you really would get sick of it.
DeleteChristmas music must be classics. I've created myself a CD with Lennon's War is Over, Slade's Merry X'mas Everybody, Mud's Lonely this Christmas, Abba's Happy New Year, Carey's All I Want For Christmas and many many more...
ReplyDeletePlaylist showing my age....
Your playlist is showing my age too....damn you...lol. All good stuff! Err. except for Mariah Carey.
DeleteI LOVE Christmas music, I've been listening on the radio.
ReplyDeleteThat is great Christine another believer!
DeleteI like Christmas music but they start it all too early here...By the time Christmas comes---well, I'm tired of it...And...Well....It's too much. And, in all candor and honesty, I don't care for individual Artists Christmas Albums...I like traditional Chorises or old fashioned sounding orchestrations of Christmas Carols....So, that's my story, my dear Lilly...!
ReplyDeleteI love the 'der Bingle' was your very favorite for so long.....You are one loyal woman! (lol)
Yes one loyal woman, lol. Not sure he was though right? I like the Chorises too, best way to hear Christmas Carols really especially the more traditional ones.
DeleteI'm listening to it right now! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWay to go!
DeleteI enjoy Christmas music and it can place you in a good mood. I have eclectic taste in music and that applies to Christmas music too.
ReplyDeleteSheryl Crow, Chris Isaak, Diana Krall, James Taylor, Josh Groban, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, and more are in my iTunes holiday playlist.
Even Stephen Colbert did a funny catchy Christmas tune.
Actually I would like to listen to your Christmas plalylist, I lke it. You like Sheryl Crow don't you? She has Christmas songs?
DeleteShe even did the Bing classic "White Christmas".
DeleteI have her songs from two albums - "A Very Special Christmas Vol3/5" (various artists) and her own "Home for Christmas".
Your post inspired me for a post about random Christmas thoughts so I gave you a shout-out.
Well I never, she has Christmas albums? I will have to check them out. I like her too.
DeleteI like Christmas music just in small doses. It can get a bit much played over and over. There is one song I do hate and that's Jingle Bells. Yuk.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I am with you on th eJingle Bells and a few other twee ones. But they are for kids really I guess.
DeleteChristmas music radio stations? Well I never...didn't know they existed..Radio does nto play much Christmas music here unless it is on the charts.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to win this contest Lilly, seriously. However, I love Christmas music, Christmas lights, all things holidayish. I will go to Christmas plays and concerts both as part of one of my part-time gigs and because I love Christmas. I give and receive cards. I give gifts within my tiny budget. I love Christmas music. My husband has an internet radio station and the holiday mix is wonderful - including Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, and a lot of other artists whose names I can't thing of now (Santa Claus is Coming to Town by the Jacksons) and a song he recorded before I met him "It's Christmas Time." Check it out (sun-music.net).
ReplyDeleteFa-la-la-la-la...la-la-la-la!
Can-Can, wow I love it. We are so alike and on opposite sides of the World too! I am checking out your husband's radio station and am putting the link in this comment again so viewers can go and listen (I will be). Everyone should go and check out Sun-Music.net Wow, you never cease to surprise me EVER!
DeleteLove it when I get those links to work in comments - anyone interestested, see my blogging tips to find out.

ReplyDeleteLilly, I love how it takes you, based in Australia to let me hear about Margo Rey. Where have I been hiding. I love her sound. Thanks for giving me the heads up. As for Christmas music I am not normally a fan but that is why I like Margo's latest single - it is totally fresh and different. xx
ReplyDeleteThat is great Sally. Imagine, will I have to go on a holiday to the USA to see Margo or will she ever come to Australia to tour, I wonder! I love her rendition of Silent Night. Never thought I would ever want to get up and dance with Silent Night lol.
DeleteI love Christmas music! I start listening to it on the radio in November, but I start to play it on the piano in October (need time to brush off the keys) :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever Aleta, perhaps a tune on your piano on your blog??? I would love to hear your music.
DeleteI am happy that I found you via Lisleman's Blog. I loved Bing. No joke. I found a RECORD ALBUM, remember those? many years ago, and I loved it. I know I like others but really Bing is king. Well, maybe Sting. That's sounds crazy but he released a great collection of solid classics of UK songs.
ReplyDeletethanks for dropping by Laurie. Record album? Um yes I do remember those. Last century right? Think vinyl is all coming back again. I like Sting too. Hope you listened to Margo, she has such a wonderful voice.
DeleteI love Christmas music! Every year I spend a lot of time picking out the perfect CD purchase to add to my collection. Then I make the perfect Christmas play list, and then listen to it every day from Thanksgiving until New Year's. I haven't purchased it yet, but I think next year I'm going to finally get Clay Aiken album. What can I say, this year Pentatonix beat him out.
ReplyDeleteWow you are committed. I will have to check out Pentatonix too.
ReplyDeleteMy first time here. I like Christmas music and will buy a couple of new CDs each year. This year I went retro – I purchased some second-hand CDs – the Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas to remind me of my happy days in San Francisco, a Christmas album of Nana Mouskouri, to remind me of my Christmas at home in Paris, then the Dave Brubeck Christmas album – one of my favorite jazz musicians, then was saddened to hear he passed away two days ago.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by Vagabond. Nana Mouskouri, oh wow. My sisiter dressed up as her for a fancy dress party the other night. You have great taste.
DeleteHey what's up with your prime minister Julia? She know something that she is just telling the Aussies? K-pop will destroy the world?
ReplyDeleteJust read my blog before you are gone for good.
Gone for good? Oh dear what are you up to? I shall be over shortly....I don't know where you find out this stuff but you are wasted..you should be in the CIA....
DeleteI really like Margo and i went to check Shauna out too. Very different and great talent, both of them. I like all sorts of holiday music and I don't really tire of it all.
ReplyDeletejennifer.logan23@gmail.com
Thanks Jennifer and good luck!
DeleteHi Lilly, I'm definitely a Christmas songs lover. And, yes, Bing is at the top of my list too. I love the traditional versions much better than the modernized ones. I sometimes play Christmas songs in July, for example, when I feel like it. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is sure just around the corner, so I hope you don't mind me wishing you a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" this early.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks Tasha, will email you.
DeleteMy son-in-law LOVES Christmas music. In fact, when he joined our family, he gave me two CDS (or was it a DVD?) full of his favorite Christmas music. It's a mixture. I wonder where my Bing Crosby album is. I have the one where he's wearing a Santa hat. Sigh... Brings back memories.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet your son in law is Kay. Maybe Art buried Bing somewhere lol..
DeleteI love Christmas music and so does my husband we actually start listening playing it right after Halloween. My husband always turns it on when were cooking dinner in the evening great relaxer.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great relaxer Tina and a reminder to chill really and focus on what is most important which to me is spending time with family. Thanks for dropping by.
DeleteWhen I lived at home with my parents EVERY Christmas day we would put on "White Christmas" by Bing while we opened our presents....actually now that I think about it we continued the tradition until 2005, because we always had Christmas lunch at my parents house.
ReplyDeleteI play John Lennon these days "Happy Xmas" (War is over).
Peggy xxxxxxx
Oh yes, I have always loved John Lennon too and really like that song as well Peggy. I must come visit your blog as I am hoping to see some talk of NZ?
DeleteI really like Margo and would love her holiday EP. I love all kinds of Christmas music.
ReplyDeleteShe is great, I agree.
Deletei like The songs which are funky, good to dance to and I believe can be a lot of fun for people.
ReplyDeletefavorite Christmas Song
We have a Holiday Music station on TV cable .. it begins with Christmas music in early December ... I never turn it off! Does that answer your question?
