This is a call for all the Christmas music lovers

to come out of the closet and support the cause.

I mean, it can't just be me can it?

Because it seems that one sure fire way of clearing a room is to turn on your favourite Christmas album.

It's worked for me. Plenty of times.

For years the only Christmas music I played was Bing Crosby - and I am talking from my 20s up.

Oh yes, as soon as that Christmas Tree went up I forgot about my favourite rock music and on came Bing.

Ah.... Bing....

Oh Holy Night indeed.

Of course, I was teased unmercifully. And still am.

I am not embarrassed to admit that I would play the album at least twice a day for at least 3 weeks and I never got sick of it. Ever.

Unfortunately, everyone else did not share the same view.

Many plans were hatched by 'the haters' to dispose of Bing in the most undignified of ways.

And I was offered bribes that would have even made Nigerian officials stand up and take notice.

Not me.

I was resolute.

It was Bing and me against the world.

In fact it has only been in the last couple of years that people have managed to convince me to try something new.

Just because it got a bit lonely with just me, Bing and the Christmas Tree.

So, in the spirit of Christmas, I bought something new.

Michael Buble.

Nice, easy listening and kind of like Bing but with a Canadian accent.

However, as I've since discovered, he is as equally polarising, if not more so.

Then, in my quest for Peace & Harmony, two vital ingredients for any holiday season, I went searching for other Christmas Albums.

Oh my, just look at the choice. Every artist has a holiday release.

Even Rod Stewart? I like Rod but no, not sure I can.....go rocking around the Christmas Tree...noooo.

Mmmmm, perhaps it is not the artist that people dislike, but the tunes that people get tired of.

Perhaps you either like Christmas music or you don't. As for me I am looking for something new.

What about you? Are you a Christmas music 'liker' or 'hater'?

And of US and Canadian readers you also get to participate in a Giveaway.

By leaving a comment on this post TWO people have a chance to each win TWO Christmas music releases for the Holiday Season. LUCKY YOU!!

The first is my favourite MARGO REY (and my family may be thrilled to know she has released some holiday music too). Love her! Her holiday EP is called This Holiday Night. Her original single of the same name. “This Holiday Night” is already gaining momentum and recognition from the Billboard charts. Margo is currently on a month long tour in the US with Dave Koz and Sheila E now through to December 23.

I have downloaded this already, just beautiful!!!!! And I particularly love her rendition of Silent Night.

The next is AAA artist SHAUNA BURNS and her holiday album is called A Winter Gathering.  She brings her Celtic twist to the holiday classics like "Carol of the Bells" and "Silent Night". Really haunting and beautiful.

Entries close on Midnight 10/12/2012 (PT). I mean you have got to have time to play it before Christmas, right?

Thanks to Mile High Productions, Los Angeles (online and social media marketing for the entertainment industry) for the prizes.

The winners were drawn by random.org on 12/12/2012 - Congratulations to Tashabud and Secret Agent Woman for winning the holiday albums.

  2. I like christmas songs but few and far between. Coldplay did some good ones. True. Interesting to know what these are like although I heard Margot Rey when you posted her before. I like her. I cannot believe you listened to Bing for like a gazillion years.

  3. I adore Christmas music. Not the rock kind, but more traditional. My all-time favorite is the Kingston Trio's "Last Month of the Year." Wonderful stuff.

  4. The mall I work at has had piped-in Christmas music for more than a week. Some of it is good, some is worth forgetting.

Since I'm surrounded by seasonal music during the day I don't seek it out as much as in years past, but it wouldn't be Christmas without a classic from my childhood--Holiday Sing-Along with Mitch Miller.

  5. Christmas music must be classics. I've created myself a CD with Lennon's War is Over, Slade's Merry X'mas Everybody, Mud's Lonely this Christmas, Abba's Happy New Year, Carey's All I Want For Christmas and many many more...

  7. I like Christmas music but they start it all too early here...By the time Christmas comes---well, I'm tired of it...And...Well....It's too much. And, in all candor and honesty, I don't care for individual Artists Christmas Albums...I like traditional Chorises or old fashioned sounding orchestrations of Christmas Carols....So, that's my story, my dear Lilly...!

I love the 'der Bingle' was your very favorite for so long.....You are one loyal woman! (lol)

    1. Yes one loyal woman, lol. Not sure he was though right? I like the Chorises too, best way to hear Christmas Carols really especially the more traditional ones.

  8. I love love Christmas music. But I don´t really have a favorite singer. As long as it´s not too "loud" or "hard", I listen. I love Christmas music radio stations, they give me a taste of everything.

Sheryl Crow, Chris Isaak, Diana Krall, James Taylor, Josh Groban, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, and more are in my iTunes holiday playlist.

  12. I don't want to win this contest Lilly, seriously. However, I love Christmas music, Christmas lights, all things holidayish. I will go to Christmas plays and concerts both as part of one of my part-time gigs and because I love Christmas. I give and receive cards. I give gifts within my tiny budget. I love Christmas music. My husband has an internet radio station and the holiday mix is wonderful - including Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, and a lot of other artists whose names I can't thing of now (Santa Claus is Coming to Town by the Jacksons) and a song he recorded before I met him "It's Christmas Time." Check it out (sun-music.net).

Well, maybe Sting. That's sounds crazy but he released a great collection of solid classics of UK songs.

  17. I love Christmas music! Every year I spend a lot of time picking out the perfect CD purchase to add to my collection. Then I make the perfect Christmas play list, and then listen to it every day from Thanksgiving until New Year's. I haven't purchased it yet, but I think next year I'm going to finally get Clay Aiken album. What can I say, this year Pentatonix beat him out.

  18. Wow you are committed. I will have to check out Pentatonix too.

  19. My first time here. I like Christmas music and will buy a couple of new CDs each year. This year I went retro – I purchased some second-hand CDs – the Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas to remind me of my happy days in San Francisco, a Christmas album of Nana Mouskouri, to remind me of my Christmas at home in Paris, then the Dave Brubeck Christmas album – one of my favorite jazz musicians, then was saddened to hear he passed away two days ago.

  22. Hi Lilly, I'm definitely a Christmas songs lover. And, yes, Bing is at the top of my list too. I love the traditional versions much better than the modernized ones. I sometimes play Christmas songs in July, for example, when I feel like it. Hehe.

Christmas is sure just around the corner, so I hope you don't mind me wishing you a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" this early.

    Have a great weekend!

  23. My son-in-law LOVES Christmas music. In fact, when he joined our family, he gave me two CDS (or was it a DVD?) full of his favorite Christmas music. It's a mixture. I wonder where my Bing Crosby album is. I have the one where he's wearing a Santa hat. Sigh... Brings back memories.

  25. When I lived at home with my parents EVERY Christmas day we would put on "White Christmas" by Bing while we opened our presents....actually now that I think about it we continued the tradition until 2005, because we always had Christmas lunch at my parents house.
I play John Lennon these days "Happy Xmas" (War is over).
