My big question after the holidays

I was left with a BIG question after the Easter holidays.

No, it wasn’t, Do we need to have family gatherings over the holidays?

Or, What is the real meaning of Easter?

Or even, What is the origin of the Easter bunny?

Or funny enough, Why don’t Columbians have chocolate easter eggs? (what a real shame for some),

No, my question is way, way bigger than any of those.

It’s…..

Why do they bother putting use by dates on chocolate Easter Eggs?

Hope you had a great holiday. Personally I will need to be running all week to undo the damage.

On another note, just a couple of blogging things, I've changed my comment system to Disquis. I like it better because I can personally reply to comments and it allows anyone to reply to other reader’s comments too. However, let me know if it is more annoying than the Blogger comment system. It is easy to use on your blog and automatic. They also transfer all your other comments within 24 hours too.

  1. I am intrigued with the comment/reply to comment feature ... so off to Disquis I hop, skip, jump - no running necessary for me!!

  2. Just last week I wondered if anyone still has 'blogrolls' and it appears you do.

  3. "Why do they bother putting use by dates on chocolate Easter Eggs?"

I've never thought about that!  You're right; in our house they're gone LONG before they expire.

  4. Let me know what you think about it - as maybe I can customise it a bit more too.

  5. Thanks Jen. Yes I am a bit, well a lot 'old fashioned' about these things, lol.

  6. These are all really big questions, lol!

  7. Yes, that is the way it ALWAYS is in my house too Kathy. Absolutely no need for those use by dates.

  8. Haha, good point! But I'd say it is clearly if you had hid any eggs and not found them, then you'd know not to eat them when you did! I'm guessing when you did find it you'd be craving the easter choc so bad you wouldn't care anyhow, so the date is there to remind you DON'T DO IT! ;) At least, that is how I operate at work with all the choc around!

  9. Um yes, me too. See? We just don't need that date.

  10. Yes, but with no answers usually, lol

  11. Hello dear Lilly,
God didn't create the need for family gatherings. People did out of loneliness and habit, which became obligation. Sometimes welcomed, more often dreaded.

Hope that your week and month are going well so far:)

    Hugs!

  13. Just a fortnight ago I was buying $5 Christmas Toblerone bars at KMart! Choc is choc, expiry dates don't deter me.BTW discovered that Brie and Camembert is actually best on the expiry date. As a bonus one can get 40% discount at Coles :)

  14. OOOOOOOOHhhhh, thanks for the tip. i love me some Brie lol.

To give you an excuse to eat them all up quickly before they go bad

  17. Possibly for the hoarders??? I dunno...but if and when I ever buy chocolate of any kind, it's gone in pretty much 24 to 48 hours.

  18. Barbara said it well, it´s the perfect excuse to eat them all before they go bad. I really  need to start getting serious again about my exercising too. Glad you back to blogging, maybe it will rub off on me. Ha!

  21. Dear Lilly,
I was thinking of going to Southern Ocean Lodge in Kangaroo Island at the beginning of next year. If it is anywhere near you, maybe we could get together for lunch? You've always felt like a kindred soul in your blogging:)

  22. I know, I had one then was going to change it but now can't get it uploaded for some reason. I will keep trying.

  23. Oh Barbara, does this mean you are back blogging? Wonderful. I like your answer except it's chocolate and I don't need an excuse.

  24. Hi Lily hope your well! I have to honestly say, with my forever love of chocolate,,i've never eaten much at all at Easter..i dont think i had more than 2 pieces this easter.  hopefully it dosnt start!

  25. You lost your links!  Oh that can be a confusing situation.  Even though there is no date given I often feel that blog posts have a "read by" date.  My guess at the answer is - there are buyers of Easter candy who celebrate the candy part all year long.
I sure hope I make it on your new and improved blogroll.

  26.  Oh one more thing (non chocolate) - you need to put your blog url in your DISQUS profile so we can click on your name when you are visiting.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh thanks Lisleman for that, will do.

  35. Chocolate will never have to worry about expiration in this house :)  Then again, that's the reason why I try not to bring chocolate into the house to begin with :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes I try too.....

  37. Can you imagine hoarding chocolate?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I need to run all week too Lilly.
Family gatherings are ok if you get some time away from them too.

  43. I do not know if it has ever been noted before that one of the main characteristics of life is discreteness. Unless a film of flesh envelopes us, we die. Man exists only insofar as he is separated from his surroundings. The cranium is a space-traveler's helmet. Stay inside or you perish. Death is divestment, death is communion. It may be wonderful to mix with the landscape, but to do so is the end of the tender ego.
