Dear International Supermodels

Do you think you could spare a thought for us normal women?

You know the ones that were clearly mucking around in the shallow end of the genetic pool when all the 'talent' got handed out up the deep end?

It seems it's not enough that you stand beside us normal girls making us look possibly a little shorter and broader than we really are.

And that you wear leather at 47 when most of us couldn't even pull off this look at 16.

And now you're lecturing us about the whole child birth process?

Apparently the $30m Supermodel Gisele Bundchen wants a worldwide law preventing mothers from using formula milk and she believes breast feeding should be mandatory for six months at least.

It's great for your figure she says. At 6ft and 8.5 stone I bet it is.

Of course, as expected, Bundchen had a natural birth at her home in Boston in December after meditating throughout her eight-hour labour. She was then up making pancakes for everyone (other than the baby clearly) and modelling swimwear six weeks later.

As you do. When you are a super model.

Yeah they sure know how to make a girl feel good about themselves.....

PS I am planning a long road trip up the coast of Australia at the end of the month...over mountain ranges and deserted plains (OK not that exciting but its a big country)....and blogging about it...and if you tell me Miranda Kerr or Elle McPherson has beaten me to it riding only a bicycle well you can kindly keep it to yourself....

Have a great weekend!

  1. Lilly,

Gisele Bundchen just exhibited her amazing lack of knowledge. In major parts of the world, formula stuff is unknown, and women routinely feed their babies, despite lack of Boston type nutrition, housing and attitude. They also walk miles to carry drinking water , and do the housework during those days.

I was born at home , which was non-typical even then in the late 40's. My mother's mother had passed away in my mother's childhood, and so my grandfather came to be beside my Mom on days when my dad had to return to work. A relative who came by to visit the day following my birth, was flabbergasted to see my mother bending and repairing a kerosene stove the next day (with all the fumes and smells) , and cooking for the family. There was no gas then. The relative was treated to an excellent cup of tea. (I was a day old and wasn't noticing things as such :-), but this visitor lady told me this when she came to visit us after the birth of my son (31 years ago).

I am not impressed by all this Giselle Bundchen , leather pants, and pancakes stuff. Apart from being abnormally thin, and spending obscene amounts of money, what is so different about what she does ?

In your picture of the tall and short lady, the latter clearly has more clout and character. And about your road trip. There are so many nice people on Australian roads besides Elle and Miranda. And so many of us here who wait to read your travelogue.....

You need to do these nice road trips at 47, not pose around in leather pants meant for those half the age....:-)

  2. for what's it worth - I pay so little attention to supermodels that I would not be able to successful match names to pictures. They must have great PR people because many could care less about them. Real entertainers are different. They have some talent. Someone like Kylie Minogue at least can sing and look good.
My understanding is that breast feeding is better but there are more important issues.

  3. This whole supermodel/celebrity thing makes me want to puke. How many times do we read about some celeb having their first child and then writing a book about childcare? As if they are the only women to give birth...and suddenly they're experts!
The world is celeb-obsessed...I don't really get it!

  4. Hmmm... Naomi Campbell, finally admitting to getting those blood diamonds from Charles Taylor, hunh? Didn't she say they were just small and dirty stones? Sigh... A whole different world.

I'm wondering how those models do that? Losing the birth weight, that is. It took me two years after my first one... and then I got pregnant again.

Australia is the next movie on my Netflix Queue. I'll be looking forward to your posts.

  5. What in God's name did we ever do before Gisele?

Clearly we were walking around wearing drool buckets.

    Rene

FYI Gisele..Bridget ( Tom's other Baby Mamma) can act...you are horrrrible!

  6. I think you have the genetic pool backwards, unless anorexia is a talent.

  9. Dear Lilly,
Yes, the one-upmanship they appear to be so smug about can be a bit emotionally debilitating, to put it politely.

On the other hand, I have finally come to a place in my life where I like and accept myself, and wouldn't trade my face for Claudia Schiffer's or Megan Fox's because I don't want whatever problems or issues they have.

I've cleared my major karma. Maybe they haven't. Not worth the risk.

    Enjoy your road trip :)

  10. Don't get me started on the whole breast feeding thing. I couldn't do it. My milk didn't come in, and I'm not sure I really wanted to, but I tried because it's the best thing to do. Problem is my son get dehydrated. He slept a lot and didn't show much interest in food. So I ended up at the hospital with him. And they were going to pump my breast milk. Forget it. Gross! I finally had to admit I'd rather use formula. You can't force people to breast feed. If that worked for everyone, they wouldn't have had wet nurses in the old days. She needs to get over herself.

Hope you have fun on your trip and am looking forward to the posts as well.

  11. who the hell does she think she is? some supermodel? hahaha!

totally dumb. I didn't breat feed my babies for very long...more like "couldn't". there were some issues and the first one I could only nurse until about 2 weeks, and then only at night until 2 months. My 2nd one was only 2 days when I stopped and my 3rd, I just didn't even go there. It was really "depressing" to not be able to do what other moms could do. Stupid lactation! :P

Anyway... this whole thing reminds me of the tree huggers that tried to get Ben & Jerry's to use breast milk in their product... check it out here...
Breast Milk in Ben & Jerry's?

  12. LOL, it's the boofy hair that makes them look taller and slimmer.

... and the latest goss, Jennifer Hawkins is looking like a head-on-a-stick! Yea right!

  13. Only you could write about the inequities among females and make it funny! Will you be getting up to the Moolalooba area? Stafford Ray lives there ... another talented Aussie writer! It was his 'woman's' house I told you about. I believe she is still trying to negotiate a sale that is close to what the home is worth. The real estate situation is depressing ~ all over the world.

  14. Oh dear ... I meant Mooloolaba!

  15. Ahh Supermodels. Can't live with them and you can't shoot them ;-)

Have a really fabulous time on your road trip. I can't wait to hear all about it. Safe travels and take lots of pictures!

I'm talking a blog vacation until Sept. 1st. I won't be around much but I'll be watching for your trip posts!

    xoxo jj

  16. Oh they clearly dont get enough nutrients to think straight do they? One baby and their experts, more like idiots.

  17. I believe in Breast feeding..I truly do. It is the BEST way, no matter what anyone says---That is how it was all done for eons!
But PLEASE...no Laws. Women have enough "laws" governing what they can and cannot do ---No More, PLEASE!

Lilly...you are a BEAUTIFUL Woman. Don't even think about these women....Most of the world are not super models. And I'm not sure it is such a great thing to be, anyway....Love what you see in the Mirroe, my dear.

And....have a WONDERFUL trip...I look forward to seeing the pictures!

  18. Haha! So hilarious! And this just makes me hate Giselle even more. Nothing I hate more than an opiniated celebrity mama telling us all how we must do things!

  19. Hi Lilly, I hope as I am reading this that you are off somewhere on the coast of Australia having a wonderful time. This post is hilarious. I don't put much faith in supermodels and their advice. Have a great trip!

  20. how the trip going? Your car didn't break down or you didn't captured by Aborigines or eaten by a dingo
Hell I don't know crap about OZ so just ignore that.
Please stop by when you get back but shake the dust off first.

  21. I've always thought of those supermodels to be grossly thin, as if they've just come out of some refuge or death camps. I prefer models who have more meats in them, who look radiant and healthy, and not looking gaunt and sickly.

As always, you've written this in your own funny twist, which is why your style of writing endears all of us.

    Have a great trip,
    Tasha

  22. Well, she may have received a greater-than-average dose of the beauty gene or genes, but there was clearly not enough room to make her more intelligent than anyone who may be "normal" size or "normal" looking.

Think of it this way--if we were out there, trying to survive in the wild, who do you think would die/be killed first? You or me, or her? Bingo.

  23. Have a wonderful trip, Lilly! Can't wait to read about your travels.

  24. Hope you are enjoying your vacation. I enjoyed your insight on this issue. I agree with the psychological harm they put on normal girls, making them feel as good as they naturally truly are.

  28. Celebs, news, and supermodel (hot bodies) whom i totally hate because they make me look fatter than what i really am, anyway you always hear about the drama of oh lets say how some single mom is raising their kids by themselves and that they are doing such a good job and blah blah blah, what about the moms that are not celebs that have raised kids by themselves do they get any credit or some news article saying good job. Celebs wouldnt be celebs if it wasn't for us and us watching there movies/shows so they can have their ratings. :)
