If you don't go ahhhh over this

you're not the person I thought you were.

To make up for the horrid spider picture, I thought I would post something more savory. In this installment of CBS News Assignment America, Steve Hartman visits an animal sanctuary where a dog and an elephant have formed a very lasting, and unusual, friendship.

For those who haven't seen the Christian the Lion Cub video, click here. Be prepared to shed a tear.

Have you ever heard of or seen any unusual animal friendships such as this?
PS: Another Australian blog I can recommend is Middle Aged Ramblings. Peggy, from Sydney, is an inspirational and gifted writer and she has some wonderful scrap blogs and a great music selection on her blog.

  3. This IS an amazing video. God...why can't us people get things right?! If a dog and elephant can bond, what is our problem, yes? Thank you for sharing, Lilly.

  4. I dont have volumn right now so i couldnt hear the story but i seeing it was enough. the little paw touching the big paw...the hugs, you can feel the caring. i always have felt animals were amazing and were given to us by God to teach. They feel such deep voids in us and give us so much unconditional love dont they?

  13. Animals can teach us all things about love and not seeing differences in others, it happens all the time. Which leads me to ask, what is it about love, kindness, acceptance, sharing, that we humans seem to have so much difficulty in doing?? This is just one more beautiful example.

  14. I love this! You are so right--they are teaching us a lesson.

  18. That is sooooooo sweet! I wish people acted more like animals sometime...loving unconditionally and paying no attention to their differences? Great video. I watched one yesterday of a cat playing with 2 mice...so cute! If I can find it again, I will send it to you.

I am such a dog lover anyway... and now I think I adore Elephants too!

If the entire world would just take heed from those tow animals... we would be living in such a different world right now.

    Thank you for posting that!

  23. Sorry I'm so late in posting my comments...work has taken me on a few travels as of late...but now that I am able, I certainly wanted to "visit".

Our cottage, The Painted Nest is not abundant in PINK (gasp, I know, LOL) nonetheless the fun continues, as I participated in this past Sat. Pink Posting... :)

  26. I sat. I saw. I sniffled. Poor Tara will certainly outlive Bella, and the thought of it had me crying. I wish they could add another young dog to the mix so that poor Tara will not be left alone.

  29. Awwww - I'm a sucker for animal friend stories.

And I clicked back because I missed the spider. Bad move. I'm up for at least another hour trying to get that image out of my brain.

  32. It just goes to show that everyone needs friends. Thanks for sharing - and I did "awww" all the way through. I didn't much care for the spider though - Me and spiders do not get along very well.

  33. Great video isnt it - I have a dog and a cat that are inseparable but an elephant and a dog are incredible.

  34. Amazing, it reminds me of the elephants painting - incredible.

  35. I thought your comment on Remembering Paris's blog on sadness, depression and feeling lost was bang on.

Last year I had to say goodbye to my best friend and comfort a 13 year old golden retriever Jake who was the love of my life. I really felt that I would die from sadness ... but I didn't. It did however change me enormously ... I grew tremendously from that deep dark place in really very positive ways.

Two books that really helped me -

    Elizabeth Lesser's
    Broken Open: How Difficult
    Times Can Help Us Grow

    James Gordon MD
Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression

Beautiful video and funny I posted about a teeny tiny spider yesterday.

cheers from the other side of the world, Susan

  48. Hi Lilly, I cane to your blog via The Daily Blonde... and I love it. And my God when I came across this particular story of the Elephant and the Dog... wow. Simply incredible and uplifting at the same time. One other thing, I noticed you have something in your About Me section re: life being too short and laughing, etc. This is an excerpt of what I have, verbatim, on my blog: "Life's too short. Let's laugh while we can." Have a great day, Lilly! Your new follower from the States, Steve O

  49. Lilly this brought tears to my eyes. We human animals have SO MUCH to learn from other species. This brought tears to my eyes when the elephant stood for days waiting outside to be near the dog. I have found so many other species have this deep enduring patience...even when they are in horrendous pain or grief. I just get so shocked when science or people believe...or even have research and "study" to prove that other species have FEELINGS. Well, HELLO!!! Make me ask which species is the more intelligent. I loved this story. So so beautiful and life giving. And I love you for posting it. One of the best animal stories I've seen in a long time. You are such a complex and beautiful soul....and yet like me I think you are very simple and see right to the heart of things. Thank you for that. Love, Robin
