Blogg-ing is a many splendored thing

. I am:
Laugh-ing - at the guy I walked past in the shopping mall yesterday who said to his friend, "I was so humiliated, it was like someone putting a firecracker up my ass, so I finally had to do it!" I was left wondering what he had to do exactly.

Read-ing: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. This is an amazing story of growing up and surviving in a disfunctional family. I'm nearly finished - just need a little more time on the couch.

Cry-ing - because my blogroll just disappeared into thin air without warning..... now where do I begin....I like using the blogroll not the follower reader to catch up on blogs...

Eat-ing - some home grown plums, peaches, apricots and vegetables. Why do they taste so different from those I buy at the markets. Interesting reading about food democracy and the slow food movement here.

Pity-ing - the rich Wall Street widows who have formed a support group called Dating a Banker Anonymous, to help women cope with the inevitable relationship fallout on Wall Street from the global financial crisis. Haven't they ever heard of 'for richer or poorer' - I am sure they can sell their jewellery if times get too tough.

Listen-ing - to Roseanne Barr and her partner Johnny Argent's LA KPFK radio show Beneath the Surface. I love the down to earth politics, the interesting guests and the discussion on world issues like Pakistan, Israel, Russia and China. Yes, really.

Lov-ing - playing around with the Advertising Slogan Generator . Useful if you are looking for post titles. Like, Four out of Five Dentists recommend Lilly's Life, They drink Lilly's Life in the Congo. Nothin' says lovin' like Lilly's Life straight from the oven -didn't say they were good just fun.

Tak-ing it to the sweet - a cupcake art installation in Seattle reminds us of the simple things.

Wish-ing - a Happy Birthday to the most beautiful girl in the world! I won't mention the fact you looked up the phone book to find a medical clinic last week because you had the flu, rang the first one you found and then spent the next ten minutes trying to book an appointment ..........at a psychiatric clinic. No, of course I would never mention that. You are new in the city. However, I may mention it when I'm doing my next Message from your Mother post...have a cocktail for me!

Question-ing - the relevance of Google Earth again, even though Google has said that it is not stalking people or helping terrorists. Perhaps others are using the tool to do just that though. India is investigating the circumstances surrounding November's deadly attack on Mumbai and how Google Earth was used in the planning. Now I know the reason my blogroll disappeared....

Plann-ing -
to write a lot of my February posts about LOVE. Love is in the Air. Love is Bliss, Love is Blind, Love is Everything, Love Hurts, Love is all we need, Love is a Battlefield, Love makes the world go round...so whether you are in love, out of love or never been in love, there will be something for everyone!

Watch-ing -
Breakfast at Tiffanys - Gran's movie posts made me realise that there are so many classics I haven't watched. So, I'm armed with a list and working my way through them.

Hop-ing you all have a great weekend and, I'm also

Wonder-ing, if any of you know someone who designs blogs, as I'm wanting a whole new look!

  5. You've inspired me to back-up my template now so they can't take my blogroll away!

And, what kind of blog design are you after? It's pretty much all CSS (except for header graphics) so it shouldn't be hard to get it looking how you want.

  6. so far the only problems i've had with blogger are self inflicted..(knock on wood).

I read that book also..i actually felt icky afterwords..it was very similar to my childhood except for the fact that her parents actually loved their children.

As for old movies--sometimes I love to do that and thank you for reminding me i might have to do that this weekend.

YEAHHH for February! The month of love-chocolate and my birthday!

  7. P.S. I was very afraid of Cutest Blog on the block when they went down--which is MY own problem not theirs. They did a great job on my blog--and i think the price is pretty good.

  8. Good Morning Lilly, hope you have a great weekend too. Great Post!

  9. I'm thinking I have to be careful about somehow saving what I've journaled so far because something could go wrong. Can't seem to get myself to start though.

Happy birthday to your beautiful mom. Your parents sound like so much fun.

I just loved reading this post!

She did snootyprimadona and it is so cute - she personalizes it to you.

  12. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls sounds like a good (albeit sombre) read. Hmmmm... I didn’t know that Roseanne Barr was on the airwaves in Oz or are you tuning in to a US radio show? Insightful post. Lots of tit-bits. p.s. Can some external person really delete your blogroll without your knowledge? Scary...

  13. Enjoy-ing your blog and the wonderful topics you bring up.

I've never had anything happen to my blog, but with so much time and memories invested, I'm tempted to somehow go back and save the posts and comments somewhere...

Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!

  22. Ah, such a fun post, Lilly! But you're particularly good at writing those. Sorry about your blog roll, hope you find it again soon. Talk about being out of it, I just had an email from a fellow blogger asking me if I had any damage from the earthquake! Hell, I didn't even know we had one! Jeez! I didn't think I was THAT old! But fortunately we all seemed to have survived -- at least until the next one. There's a mountain in Alaska about ready to blow it's top -- so my son in Texas wrote me.

  24. Thanks everyone for your comments. Now you want to know what the picture is? HA HA

Well, its actually the residue from carrots, beetroot and spinach that I used to make vegetable juices. I thought the colours looked so wonderful togeher that I took a pic. Now I want to use the leftovers in future to make something or other.

Thanks for your tips about designere for my blog - I am going to follow these up!!

  25. That sucks your blogroll is gone. I'm pretty sure I was on it. :D

    Have a great weekend!

  30. When you do that redesign, may I suggest that you make your links a different color from your text, or underline them, or preferably both? Took me 10 minutes to realize there were any in the post, I was googling Advertising Slogan Generator and wondering why you didn't just link to it... :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm afraid to think about what he was talking about...I'm reading The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. If you haven't read anything by him you must..I loved his book She's Come Undone soo much.
Love is over rated..unless he/she has fur and licks you.

  32. That's a really nice post.
I came home the other night and logged into my private journal on blogspot and it won't let me in because it says my cache might be full, or empty my cookies or my javascript might not be enabled. I've done it 10 times and I still can't get in. But it will let me in my other blogs. Dang-it.
    Beautiful picture too.
    Have a great weekend!

  36. I want to redesign mine too...but how did you lose your blogroll? I can't figure out which is easier to follow, blogroll or followers. For me it's a combination of both, plus those who comment...it works :)

  37. Go to www.cutestblogontheblock.com and you can either change your background or they can design a whole new one for you for a fee.

  38. I count on my Blog roll. That has to suck losing it.

I've gotta check out the slogan thing.

Oh your poor daughter. But maybe she needs THAT kind of help. After all, YOU are her mother!! ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love reading your interpretation of each of those words Lilly....what a fascinating mind you have!

I will definitely be using the Advertising Slogan Generator, I have just put it in my favorites.

Regarding your February posts about love, the Generator came up with "Nothing works better than love"...not bad eh!

Hope you are somehow keeping cool, I have been going to the beach early in the morning for a refreshing dip.

    Cheers
    Peggy

  40. Oh that is not good about the blog roll. I lost my whole blog and had to start again. Everyone must back up their blogs because it would be horrendous if they got lost.I thought the slogan generator was loads of fun too. I really enjoyed this post and think you should make it a regular series for 2009.

  42. @ skye - thanks for that mention - I changed it for some reason it defaulted to black - strange things going on with my blog....

@ Eric - what happened was there were doctors names in teh phone book and she just picked one near her. The doctor was at a clinic. Sh ejsut assumed he was a GP/ No he was part of a pychiatric clinic. She rang for an appointment and she went through the taking down the details before it dawned on her that they were booking her in for a psychological evaluation not an appointment to get antibiotics or whatever for her flu. She has only been living in the city she has been in for a short time.

@ Braja - I dont know how - I just opened my blog and there was nothing there. Gremlins....I had over 120 sites in my blogroll - maybe there was too many. A lot of them arent on blogger either...ah well.

@ Wheresmyangels - mmmm of course I will let your comment fly through to the goalkeeper (heard that expression?). LOL!!!

@ Peggy - ooohhh I really like that slogan, it is a lot of fun but then again I am easily amused.

@ Banoffi - I may well do something like this at the end of every month perhaps - good idea thank you.

  43. @ CathM - sorry I forgot to answer your question. I was reading Roseanne Barrs blog for a long time. I never watched her show back in the 90s but I find her curiously entertaining. She is also very smart as is her partner even though she comes across as very ballsy and crude at times. She has done radio shows for some time. I listen to the podcasts - the guests are the best bit. She kind of also inspired me to blog as well. I love politics - the more I learn the more disgusted I am that the world is just a big playground. We need a female principal I am more convinced than ever.

  44. Wonder-ing how someone can write so beautifully.

  45. I really should start eavesdropping on conversations when I am out, I am sure there would be some interesting stuff out there!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lilly. Ah, interesting re Roseanne’s talk/radio shows and podcasts. I used to love her sitcom when I was younger. Very funny! Hmmmmm... re your thoughts on a female principal. In light of your recent blog convo on women in the workplace – I do wonder if a female principal would really do a better job!?! A part of me thinks that our political-fuelled crisis on the global stage is more of a human problem rather than a male/female dilemma. Although, in light of the mess that ‘male principals’ have made in our world perhaps, a female principal might do a better job. It might depend on what kind of woman principal she is... an interesting debate...!

  48. @ CathM - we will never know but when I heard the US is bombing Pakistan I just groaned. Its all about power struggles but we in the west just like to think that its all about security and protecting what we have. Its all about China now. Oh I could go on about this forever but wont because I will get hate mail. Oh and all women don't make crappy bosses just insecure ones. Somehow I dont think we would have the same need for control and weaponry and would prefer to spend defence dollars on feeding the worlds hungry.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Everything you mention reminds people about part of what it means to feel alive. We each have the freedom to explore things that come to define what we discern it means to be human. You offer a great guide. It inspires action.

  59. Please let us all know what you think of Breakfast At Tiffany's?
I saw it last year when ABC had an Audrey Hepburn movie every Saturday night for about 6 weeks. I wasn't at all impressed with the movie, there didn't seem to be much substance to the story.
