On Silent Sundays I like to share some photos of different aspects of my life.Today I wanted to share a few images of my makeup work. When I was in my late 20s I did a Theatrical Makeup Diploma which was a big departure from my 'normal' career - I have always been obsessed with makeup. I continued to combine the two careers in varied ways. You can read about my makeup obsession in one of my very first posts. It really has been an obsession since my childhood and those early days of colouring in.
My poor daughter was the guinea pig for many different looks while I was studying. She had black eyes, open wounds, makeup of every era, wigs, beards, aging makeup and so on. I particularly love the blood and gore - false wounds, limbs, aging etc. I also discovered a particular love for sculpting.
My only regret is that I have never mastered how to paint Angeline Jolie's face on to mine or anyone else's either. Ah well, makeup can transform a person but it can't perform miracles!
Truth is, I personally do not like to wear too much makeup myself I just like to put it on others!

Wow, how fascinating. I'm horrible with makeup. I remember in high school I was in our mine troupe and I HATED putting that horrible thick stuff on my skin and I wasn't good at it either.

You are sounding more and more like Kel. She was pretty heavily involved in drama and theater all through high school and college. She has been know to make herself, and others up regularly.

ReplyDelete@ wheremyangels - I know I am not the best at it but I really like it for some bizarre reason. I love hair shows because its then you can really do some strange makeup and no-one cares because they expect it to be a little weird. Of course everyday makeup is a different story. ReplyDelete@ sarah - well I think day to day makeup is pretty easy - less is more always! The best advice I could give is to put it on and take half of it off. Truly!

Lilly, it's interesting getting to know bits and pieces about you. Obviously, I don't know much about makeup but I know many people have made lucrative careers out of it. I am sort of surprised that you like to do fake blood and all. I bet your daughter probably still has nightmares about that! Just kidding.

ReplyDeleteThose pictures are phenomenal! I'm also a huge makeup junkie. I have a masters degree in voice (opera), so I loooooove getting seriously dressed and made up. I also worked on a management team for an Origins store until our first daughter was born--mostly since we got 40% at M.A.C.. :) Enjoy your Sunday and thanks for the laugh today.

Now Lilly I know not a lot about makeup but girls wouldn't wear this out would they except those ones in the middle at the top? What would Blanche make of this I wonder? They are like works of art though aren't they except you use the face as a canvas. I think I would like to see any bloody and gory ones you have...

ReplyDeleteHi Lily, I finally got a chance to check out your blog - brilliant ! doing stage type make-up is something I would love to have done unfortunately, there were no classes available in any of the colleges that were near us in the land of the tartan. The nearest I could get was Art and I submerged myself in it till I 'had' to concentrate on supposedly 'grown up things' ...I was the eldest of five kids and in those days we were sent down the mines - No I'm only kidding.

Many many kudos to him. He reminds me so much of my own Dad who had the same sense of fun and dry wit. Goodonhim!! Thanks for sharing a wee bit of him with us.
My Dad died after 3 years of dementia - a dreadful disease - I miss him so much .. At the mo I'm gathering stories of his exploits (real and imagined) for a wee book - well it was meant to be a 'wee' book but it seems to be taking on a life of its own and getting bigger by the day. As is this comment..

ReplyDeleteI'm don't really wear make up at all but I LOVE to do it for photos (personal) Me and my best friend tried this once and took some shots but we weren't really experts in putting make up at all. Hahahah I wish we could meet, hehehe i wouldn't mind to be your guinea pig on this fun. it would be so fun!
