Friday's Feast

A visit to one little outdoor Market

To get a box of Fruit and Vegetables

To make glasses of Beetroot, Apple & Celery juice and Carrot, Pear & Ginger juice

And one Banana Gluten Free Cake

And some slices of Roast Pumpkin & Spinach Frittata

And loads of Salad

And Fat, Juicy Prawns

And I'm left with three little delicacies I don't have a clue what to do with except admire for their beauty!

UPDATE: Robin from Naked in Eden has the answer on what to do with these - "your little red furry things are RABUTANS. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. You can read about them and how to prepare them here." Thanks Robin!

  1. Oh my god, this looks SO good!!! I could eat all of it except the prawns . Also, your little red furry things are RABUTANS. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. You can read about them and how to prepare them here:
I can't believe you ability to cook AND make it look so colorful and appealing. I like the idea of gluten free since I'm not supposed to have gluten. I read somewhere that wheat allergies, due to the gluten, are the number one allergy in the world. Don't quote me...but nontheless I read that somewhere. The fresh juices are amazing. I've lots of juicing in my day. I don't know where you get all your time to work, cook and blog almost every day. You are amazing. A real inspiration. I tend to be like that myself, but I still never have enough hours in the day to do all I want to do. Here's hoping I live a long life because there's still so much I want to experience and do. Hugs, Rob

PS would love the recipe for your gluten free banana cake, unless it's a trade secret! :)

  2. You made all this? "Oh my gosh" is all I can say, Superwoman! Great photos also.

  3. Robin - I love the markets and it would be even better if I could grow them myself. Thanks on the Rabutans link. I will be off to find something creative to do with them now. Yes I used to be into juicing in the past too and am to back into it again. As for the gluten free cakes, my sister has a wheat intolerance so I started making things for her and realised that I like the taste better myself and the food was much lighter. Yep wheat and dairy are BAD for lots of people and if I could give up sugar I would be happy but cant seem to manage that bit of the equation. I had yesterday off so had a great time having fun - I am determined to try a few more obscure fruits and vegetables in my diet. My ex used to run restaurants and was a chef so I got a bit more adventurous in terms of food but I still like simplicity in all things. I like to keep busy - just the way I am these days!. Thanks for dropping by. By the way are you a vegan or vegetarian or give me a shout if you would rather not divulge your beauty secrets!!!

  4. Redchair - food is such fun, I love the presentation and colour more than anything else - it was a free day for me and I just kept trying different things. Thanks for stopping by, Lilly.

  5. Rambutans - a tropical fruit that we have in Singapore. We usually eat it on its own. I use them in my Chinese dishes. I have yet to try making a cake with them though.

If you succeed in baking a rambutan cake, let me know.

    Happy weekend!

  6. We call your rabutans - chirimoyas chinas - Chinese chirimoyas. You break that skin and inside there is an oval kind of roundish incredible smooth pearlescent fruit that feels super silky on the tongue and is just delicious to bite into. Had these all my life growing up in Panama city, Panama. Don't even know if they were imported but we had them all the time.

Also, agree with you on the kucinich thing. Wouldn't I love it if the impeachment really happened.

Thanks for your comments.
