Do you know someone

who is self centred, arrogant and conceited?
According to Mindset Media, which surveyed 7,500 Mac and PC users, they must be a Mac owner.

The research found that Mac users consider themselves superior to PC users, are more likely to use teeth-whitening products, buy organic food, purchase more shoes, go to Starbucks and drive a Hybrid car.

Qualities that Mac has capitalised on in its brilliant ad campaign starring Drew Barrymore's boyfriend, Justin Long, as the cool urbane Mac alongside the very uncool PC. Mind you, I don't think all of Apple's marketing campaigns are as clever - see my post Hey Apple, Bite Me on the MacBook Air laptop.

I was a devout Mac user for years but left the fold when I clearly couldn't come at the Hybrid car. Of course it had nothing to do with the fact that my loyalty was sorely tested when the 35 Apple support staff I spoke to couldn't help me with a certain technical glitch. All show and no substance worked for me for many years (when I worked around a design environment) before I became decidedly uncool and bought a PC. I still have my very first Mac stored away though. I miss the beautiful and clean designs but not the functionality. And regardless, I still am clearly self centered, arrogant and have a need for recognition. And I love organic food from backyard vegetable gardens, shoes, use teeth whiteners and go to Starbucks. But unlike many rabid mac users, I think PC users have a sense of humour and can laugh about reality. Check this out.

So, are you a Mac or PC User?

  1. That's a cute video (the animated one). Personally, I have never used a Mac, partly because I can't justify the additional cost over the PC. If I knew for sure they were that much better than pc's I wouldn't mind paying it, but I don't even know anyone who uses a Mac right now. Hey, maybe that means I pick good friends, ones who aren't "holier than thou". Of course, that also means I have to put up with Windows Vista, which likes to take constant breaks right as I am blog-hopping or trying to post something. I hope that doesn't mean I am a placater! lol

  2. Uncool PC user. But I do know someone who is a Mac user and fits that description well. In fact, he is so arrogant that he probably isn't going to read this article, which I just sent him. So I could probably say anything I wanted about him here....hm....

  3. Matt - I know people who use Macs mainly because they are designers and I do love the look of macs but...thats about it. They are expensive for just everyday normal use. I guess its like cars or whatever, they become status symbols for some people. Vista....mmmm...know what you mean. Thanks for dropping by.

Dineometerdeb - you made me laugh -an arrogant Mac user - well I never. Thanks for the laugh and for dropping by.

  4. i'm a pc user. yes, i'm interested in mac but the price is so expensive which i think i just stick with pc rather than mac. i'd rather use the money for some other reasons rather than on computer itself.

i heard leopard is much better than vista? how true...

  6. Haha, that is ridiculous, I think a lot of designers use it because some of their preferences, and maybe because beeing something more rare they come up with that non sense at all theory, anyways maybe Some people feel superior with their Mac, but is just an illusion we are all the same, no material thing will make us superior in front of another human, I use whatever is necesary to comunicate or create I love good and healty food, I won't drive a hibrid because I do not want to use food to fuel my car, there is to many starving people on earth I consider it an insult, but I will ride my bike and feel pretty good about myself haha while growing organic food in my backyard :P just joking :) Good post, we make us think... :)

  9. i go both ways. (ummmm....that didn't come out right.) i've owned both macs and pcs, even at the same time. i'm an ad guy and all the creative types use macs, while the suit types use pcs. as a creative director/writer, i should have a mac, but i just bought a new pc. (i used to be a brand strategist, so the pc thing stuck, i guess.) i did a video satirizing mac lovers' devotion to all things mac by describing a day when apple becomes an official religion, and put it on my site, but mac users who view it aren't in the least offended. in fact, they love it. secure in their mac-ness, i guess.

  10. Horotionsalt - you walk the line between both worlds. I get you. Macs are better for design work of any kind. Its a fact and their design is so beautiful I can see why creative types prefer them. I just like 'looking' at them. Packaging is important for us shallow types. I recall your MacReligion video. It is really great. The rabid Mac lovers I know (because I thought the same for years) think Apple is a religion. Very clever what Apple has done really with its overall marketing. Thanks for stopping by.
